  • 2016

    Swiss watch manufacturers Andre and Ronnie Bernheim have purchased the remaining fifty percent of Luminox watch companies and brands from founding partner Barry Cohen.

    Mondaine is main partner of Gottardo2016 and the opening of the Gotthard Base tunnel.
    Mondaine launches the Mondaine PayChip™.

  • 2015

    Headquarters of Mondaine Watch Ltd. and L&M Watches move to Pfäffikon SZ.
    Mondaine launches its first ever smartwatch, the Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smart.

    The Mondaine Helvetica family, inspired by the font Helvetica®, is created.

    Official Time-keeper for the CSI equestrian event in Zurich (1997-2000).
    Official Time-keeper for the Tour de Suisse (1992-1994).
    Development of world’s first post-consumer recycling watch, recipient of World Ecology Award.
    Recipient of German Design Plus award for innovative design and ecological concept.
    Mondaine “Meeting Point” in Zurich main train station is inaugurated.

    Assistant RDT&E Officer for the Navy SEALs, Nick North worked with Cohen to develop a watch specifically for the Navy SEAL’s (1993).

The 1980s

  • Mondaine
    Establishment of the Mondaine International Service Organization (MISO) after-sales service network.
    Exclusive license agreement with Swiss Federal Railway (SBB).
    Establishment of Mondaine Swiss Watch (Far East) Ltd. in Hong Kong.

    Barry Cohen and Richard Timbo partner up and Luminox is born.

    Development of M-WATCH and market launch with Migros.
    M-WATCH world innovation: waterproof plastic watch without the need of a metal pressure bezel.

The 1970s

  • Mondaine
    Development of digital watches (LED) in collaboration with Hughes Aircraft and world’s first digital watches with LCD, with BBC/ABB Group.
    Launch of world’s first consumer-programmable LCD watches with microprocessors.
    Introduction of first solar quartz watch with both analog and digital displays.

CARBON COMPOUND - the forefront of innovation!

We use a special carbon compound material that results in a very stiff and hard finished watch case.

This high-tech material is frequently used in racing, cars, airplanes and spaceships. Professionals around the world choose it because of its perfect combination of light weight, strength and durability.

Carbon Compound does not get hot in warm temperatures or cold in cold climates and, for undercover missions the matte finish material is also an important benefit.



Mondaine continues to innovate with new Near Field Communication (NFC) contactless payment technology. A number of Mondaine watches are imbued with a Mondaine PayChip™, designed to offer convenient and efficient transactions at contactless payment points. The Mondaine PayChip™, which is the same size as a phone SIM-card, is invisibly secured within a specially-designed, patent pending part of the Mondaine watch strap on the 12 o’clock side, or inside a strap loop which can be fitted to most watches. The ‘handy’ positioning of the PayChip™ ensures that a simple flick of the wrist results in uncomplicated payments at NFC pay counters worldwide; freeing the wearer from unnecessary bulky bags or wallets.


Always Visible

Navy SEALs, law enforcement, emergency personnel and more wear Luminox watches, and these professionals need to be able to see the time no matter the conditions. That’s why Luminox uses tiny tritium gas tubes, which will provide illumination for up to 25 years. Unlike other luminosity systems, which depend on exterior light sources to charge luminous paint or a pushbutton to illuminate the watch, the luminosity is built right into Luminox watches, ensuring that you will always be able to see the time, no matter the conditions.



Mondaine launched a watch that proudly references its past, while simultaneously taking a bold step into its future. The Mondaine Helvetica No 1 Smart is the first-ever smartwatch. Inside this watch is the latest in smart technology focused on monitoring activity and sleep, featuring Motion activity tracking, Sleeptracking sleep monitoring, sleep cycle alarms, get-active alerts and adaptive coaching.



A unique feature of the Swiss Railway (SBB) Clock that ensures the smooth and absolutely precise departures of Swiss trains on the full minute, the 2 second pause on all railway clocks across Switzerland has continued to delight and intrigue travelers for the past 70 years. Swiss watchmaker Mondaine has incorporated this unique motion within the stop2go. This timepiece features the famous red second hand that completes its rotation in 58 seconds and then pauses at the 12 o’clock mark for 2 seconds while the black minute hand jumps forward, starting its next rotation.


New production site

In 2009 Mondaine built a new state-of- the-art factory, which is also home for the new Marlox Group (Esprit, JOOP!, Puma). We are very pleased to invite all international distributors, representatives of the media and other people working with us to attend a factory tour.
